Viktor Šerbu exhibits at the Dubrovnik branch office of the CHF

The exhibition showcases a selection of Šerbu’s oeuvre from all of the periods of his fruitful and many years of creative work. Also presented was a prize for best academic work in the past five years awarded by the University of Mostar for the monograph Viktor Šerbu: A Lyrical Fauvist of Dubrovnik’s Colourism.

The Croatian Heritage Foundation’s branch office in Dubrovnik played host to an exhibition of the work of Viktor Šerbu and a discussion with this academy-educated painter from Dubrovnik (hr-hr.facebook.com) at its premises at No. 7 Petilovrijenci street on Tuesday the 14th of June 2016.
The exhibition showcases a selection of Šerbu’s oeuvre from all of the periods of his fruitful and many years of creative work. Also presented was a prize for best academic work in the past five years awarded by the University of Mostar for the monograph Viktor Šerbu: A Lyrical Fauvist of Dubrovnik’s Colourism (Viktor Šerbu: fovistički lirik dubrovačkog kolorizma).
The author of the monograph and art historian Marin Ivanović was joined by the monograph’s reviewer Vinicije Lupis PhD to speak of Viktor Šerbu’s oeuvre. Also on hand to speak to the gathered was the dean of the University of Mostar’s Faculty of Philosophy professor Zoran Tomić PhD.
Viktor Šerbu was born in Dubrovnik in 1938, where he completed his elementary and secondary education. He received his initial art training from Kosta Strajnić. He earned his diploma in 1963 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb in the class of professor Oton Postružnik. He was in England and France from 1965 to 1969 for his professional development. He is a member of the Croatian Association of Artists (HDLU). Šerbu has spent much of his career working as an art teacher in elementary school. He has exhibited at numerous group and solo showings in the country and abroad and has been the recipient of a number of prizes and recognitions for his work. He is the subject of an entry in the Croatian Encyclopaedia of Art. Two documentary films and one monograph have been made about his work. Šerbu lives and works in Dubrovnik.
