CHF director Marin Knezović met with Vesna Haluga, the Croatian general consul in Pécs, Stjepan Blažetin, the director of the Hungarian Croatian Institute of Sciences, Branka Pavić Blažetin, the chief editor of the Croatica Media Centre and the of the newspaper Hrvatski glasnik and with Ivan Gugan, president of the Croatian Minority Self-Government in Hungary.
On Friday the 6th of May Croatian Heritage Foundation director Marin Knezović visited the Croatian community of the Hungarian city of Pécs. He met with Vesna Haluga, the Croatian general consul in Pécs, Stjepan Blažetin, the director of the Hungarian Croatian Institute of Sciences, Branka Pavić Blažetin, the chief editor of the Croatica Media Centre and of the of the newspaper Hrvatski glasnik and with Ivan Gugan, president of the Croatian Minority Self-Government in Hungary (Hrvatska državna samouprava u Mađarskoj, HDS).
The meeting focused on the status of the Croatian national minority in Hungary, the activities of the Croatian community in Pécs and future collaboration with the old Croatian homeland.
General consul Haluga thanked the CHF for its collaboration and support to date, director of the Hungarian Croatian Institute of Sciences Blažetin familiarised CHF director Knezović with the core activities of the organisation he leads and presented the ideas of a lexicon of Croatians in Hungary, of compiling the first biography of Croatian magazines in Hungary from World War II to the present, and of a monograph on the settlement of Kozari. The institute will stage a lecture in the frame of the proclamation of the Day of Croatian Schools in Hungary by the assembly on the 21st of May.
Croatian Minority Self-Government president Ivan Gugan spoke of the issues the community faces, underlining the need to complete the reconstruction of the Croatian theatre house in Pécs and to resolve the status of the Croatian culture and education centre in Vlašići on the island of Pag.
That same day CHF director Knezović was present for the celebration of the 25th anniversary of Croatian independence at the civic centre in Szalanta.
