Photographer Ivica Jurjević was born in the parish of Kruševo in the foothills of the Velebit mountain range on the 5th of June 1958. He spent his childhood in his native Kruševo and received his education in Zadar and Zagreb. He graduated from the Zagreb Institute of Theology in 1981 and went on to become first secular theologian in the former Yugoslavia. He put his feelings to paper during the Homeland War of independence – his poetry is presented in six collections. After the year 2000 he established the Croatian Diaspora Association to promote culture and humanism among our compatriots around the world.
Stepinac’s Way of the Cross was created mid way through World War II in the town of Marija Bistrica and completed just ahead of the visit of Pope John Paul II. The pilgrim’s chief impression is of the ease with which the artists depict each of the key details of the Calvary. This exhibition is sure to draw all of Croatia to this holy place, to pray, sing and celebrate. The photos were made to be seen by all of Croatia, the entire Diaspora, by everyone who prays and seeks, notes the photographer in the exhibition catalogue.
