Juraj Pavlović’s Light by My Hand exhibition opened on the 23rd of April at the gallery of the Society of the Friends of Dubrovnik Antiquities in Široka street. The event was organised by the Dubrovnik branch office of the Croatian Heritage Foundation.
In her introduction text to the exhibition Ira Jerković notes that Juraj Pavlović (https://glasgrada.hr/izlozba-unikatnih-lampi-u-sirokoj-ulici-svjetlost-mojom-rukom/) has chosen light as his sabre on his travels through life, for the world around him, and for all those who see the animated light of his lamps. He is led through his creative work by the idea of renewal and creates his lamps with the aim of imbuing old glass he finds with new life. It’s a rare and big deal when anyone is crowned the “king” of whatever their pursuit is in life. Juraj Pavlović has long enjoyed the title of “lamp king” in a country that is known for being very strict and demanding in its view of expertise of any kind. A native of Dubrovnik, this artist has long borne the moniker of Bavaria’s king of lamps.
During his first exhibition in Croatia Josip Depolo described his lamps as supreme creations of artistry and craftsmanship and referred to his work as a kind of poetry; and what can be said that surpasses poetry? Pavlović has succeeded in lighting up his entire life with his very special, poetic and unique artistry of light – light created by his own hand.
The exhibition will be open through to the 15th of May. (https://dubrovacki.slobodnadalmacija.hr/)
