The Croatian cultural and local self-government body in Budapest’s 5th district invited the masked carnival buše players from Mohács for their traditional festivity which symbolically says goodbye to winter and hello to spring. The masked traditional buše players began their festive parade on the 9th of February, accompanied by the Dunavkinje tamburitza ensemble, at St Stephen’s Square and went from the basilica to Deák Square and then on to the Aranytíz Culture Centre. It was a real attraction, drawing the interest of many people, who delighted in taking photos in their company. The parade was followed by the opening of the Carnival Through the Eyes of the Buše Players exhibition featuring the work of photographer Zsolt Répásy at the gallery of the Aranytíz Culture Centre. On hand to welcome everyone were Gábor Szentgyörgyvölgyi, the president of the human rights, ethnic minorities and religious issues committee for the 5th district local administration, and Ivan Bušić, minister plenipotentiary at the Croatian embassy to Hungary. The exhibition was officially opened by Eszter Csonka-Takács, the director of the administration for the intangible cultural heritage of the Skanzen open air museum in Szentendre. The exhibition will remain open for viewing through to the 28th of February 2019.
