The fourth collection of poetry penned in the Molise dialect of Croatian will be presented in Zagreb at a literary meeting with Antonio Sammartino.
The Days of Italian Culture are staged in Split every year by host the Marko Marulić municipal library and the Dante Alighieri Croatian-Italian Association. Invited for this year’s event was Antonio Sammartino, president of the Piccoli Foundation of Mundimitar.
Mr Sammartino delivered a lecture and video projection on “Croatians of the Apennines – A Piece of Dalmatia in Italy”. For the occasion Mr Sammartino presented the latest, fourth, collection of poetry written “na našo” (“in our language”), meaning in the Molise Croatian dialect. The volume is entitled S našimi riči (In Our Words) and is published by Agostina Piccoli, with a foreword penned by writer Đuro Vidmarović. Read more
There are three towns in the Molise region that are home to the descendants of Croatians who moved there centuries ago: Mundimitar (Montemitro), Filič (San Felice) and Kruč (Aquaviva Collecroce). For half a millennium they have preserved the unique dialect the Molise Croats brought with them from the Makarska region, which they now refer to as speaking “na našo”.
