Željo Perković exhibits in Dubrovnik

An exhibition featuring the work of academy educated painter Željo Perković opened July 4th at the premises of the Croatian Heritage Foundation. On show is a series of portraits, for the most part of movie actors, that the painter has framed against the sea and sailboats. Sarajevo native Branka Turkić, who holds a MA in graphic arts, opened the exhibition.
“I was very pleased when a fellow artist asked me to do the review for the reason that art historians often do not know what they are talking about. One could say that Željo uses a ‘sparse pallet of tones’, but that is a quality of great masters. The motifs utilised by Željo reveal what makes him happy – women and travel. The sailboats are just symbols of adventure and travel,” Turkić said.
Perković enrolled in the Art Academy in 2004 at the age of 35 – he is known among Dubrovnians as the coach of the Kakato karate club.
The exhibition runs through to the end of the month.
