The participants of the 25th jubilee School of Croatian Folklore, held in the northern town of Koprivnica, closed with a gala concert showcasing their love for the homeland and its wealth of heritage through song, dance and traditional customs. For a full quarter-century the folklore school has been staged by the Croatian Heritage Foundation and has a history going back fifty-five years, noted event organiser Snježana Jurišić, head of the CHF culture department.
The participants demonstrated everything they had learned in the winter programme, focused on southern Croatia’s Adriatic seaboard, at the packed hall of the Youth Civic Centre in Koprivnica. Attending the final concert were the president of Koprivnica city council Ivan Pal, Koprivnica deputy major Ksenija Ostriž, Koprivnica-Križevci County deputy prefect Ratimir Ljubić, the head of the department for Croatian minority legal status, culture and education at the State Office for Croats Abroad Dubravka Severinski, and CHF director Mijo Marić.
Speaking at the event director Marić noted that, “These valuable traditional programmes and the Croatian Heritage Foundation constitute a special and excellent bridge between Croatians abroad and their culture of origin, and serve as an encouragement to the preservation of the wealth of Croatian heritage in the countries in which they live.”
