Friar Šešelja lead the Croatian Catholic Mission in Australia’s Wollongong from 1971 to 1993. He was instrumental in seeing the erection in 1983 of the first ethnic Croatian Catholic church in Australia, dedicated to Mary Queen of Croats.
Frane Šešelja was a priest of the Glagolitic Secular Franciscan Order and a monk of the St Michael monastery in Zadar. He died after a short illness on Friday, 8 January at the Zadar General Hospital in his 90th year, having been a monk for 71 years and a priest for 56.
His broad activities in the religious community as a priest and monk saw Šešelja lead the Croatian Catholic Mission in Australia’s Wollongong from 1971 to 1993. He was instrumental in seeing the erection in 1983 of the first ethnic Croatian Catholic church in Australia, dedicated to Mary Queen of Croats.
