The traditional summer programmes include two schools of Croatian language and culture, a folklore school, a folklore workshop, a theatre seminar and a volunteering programme for youth from around the world. The programmes kick off on the 25th of June and run through to the 15th of August. Registration is open to participants, depending on the start of the event, from the 20th of May to the end of June.

The Croatian Heritage Foundation is again this year organising its traditional summer programmes, including two schools of Croatian language and culture, a folklore school, a folklore workshop, a theatre seminar and a volunteering programme for youth from around the world. The programmes kick off on the 25th of June and run through to the 15th of August. Registration is open to participants, depending on the start of the event, from the 20th of May to the end of June.

The University School of Croatian Language and Culture is targeted to youth of Croatian extraction and all other students who wish to learn about Croatia, acquire and broaden their knowledge of Croatia, and learn or perfect their Croatian. The University School is also open to teachers of Croatian as a second language who wish to develop their skills in the area of mastering the language by participating in instruction and attending a course targeted exclusively to them. The school takes place in Zagreb from the 25th of June to the 22nd of July. The deadline for applications is the 20th of May. (www.facebook.com/sveucilisna.skola)

The seminar for leaders of theatre (dramatic arts) troupes active abroad will be held on the islet of Galovac (Školjić) again this summer from the 2nd to 10th of July, conceived as a workshop for the instruction of people who wish to broaden and enrich their knowledge and for those who intend to establish a theatre troupe; during the eight days of learning, creating and socialising participants will hear many useful tips and acquire easily applied practical knowledge. The Creating Theatre Seminar is particularly useful to the leaders of emigrant community theatre troupes active in bilingual language environments and multicultural milieus. Applications are accepted up to the 15th of June. 

The CHF is organising the Little School of Croatian Language and Culture, the objective of which is for children, ages 9 to 16, living outside of Croatia, to join children from all across Croatia in improving their knowledge of the Croatian language and learning about the culture and natural heritage of the region they are visiting. The school is held in Novi Vinodolski from the 18th to 29th of July. Applications are accepted up to the 23rd of May. (www.facebook.com)

The TASK FORCE volunteer programme involves young people from the homeland and the emigrant communities working in environmental protection, reviving abandoned areas of Croatia’s natural heritage and culture/historical space and has transformed over the years into the ECO HERITAGE TASK FORCE. This year from the 24th of July to the 13th of August young volunteers from around the world will gather in Šibenik. Applications are accepted up to the end of June.

From the 25th of July to the 3rd of August of this year the Summer School of Croatian Folklore, staged in the Borik district of Zadar, will teach the dances, folk costumes, songs and musical instruments of Croatia’s DINARIC REGION. Along with practical instruction in dance, lectures will also be given on the folk costumes and songs of the Dinaric region, as will lectures on dance notation (kinetography) and the basics of children’s folklore. Also planned are theoretical lectures on the stage application of folklore, the methodology of working with rural folklore ensembles and, in particular, with reproductive ensembles. Applications are accepted up to the 15th of June. 

This year’s fourteenth Croatian Ethno Treasury workshop on the manufacture and reconstruction of Croatian folk costumes and traditional textile skills will be staged from the 5th to 15th of August in Pučišća on the island of Brač. This traditional programme is targeted to Croatian textile handicraft enthusiasts, in particular focusing on folk costumes, how they are made, and their maintenance and use in folklore associations. Participant applications are accepted up to the 15th of June.
