Following a short and difficult illness we sadly report that seminarian, associate and dear friend Mario Pinjuh has passed away. Pinjuh was born in Mostar (Bosnia-Herzegovina) on the 5th of May 1990, where he attended elementary school. He attended secondary school (Friar Dominik Mandić Gymnasium) in nearby Široki Brijeg. He earned a degree in Croatian language and literature and English language and literature at the University of Mostar (Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences). He began his career in journalism on the Običan radio station before moving on to radio and television broadcaster RTV Herceg-Bosna. For the past two years he had worked at the Mir Međugorje radio station. He covered Croatian Heritage Foundation traditional culture events and promoted and spread awareness of the importance of traditional culture in preserving our identity.

He was a longstanding member of the Mokro culture and arts association and worked with many other culture and arts associations. Pinjuh was also a member of UHAKUD, an association of Croatian amateur culture and arts associations in Bosnia-Herzegovina. His community activity included serving at the post of secretary of the local council in the village of Mokro and, in recent years, was one of the chief organisers of At the Foundations of Our Basilica, a folklore event in Mokro. He was a versatile individual and dedicated his love and efforts to journalism and the preservation of our heritage.

We will always remember the sentiment he expressed during our last collaborative effort during the promotion of the Summer School of Folklore and seminars via the Internet organised by the Croatian Heritage Foundation during the current coronavirus pandemic: “Through folklore we pay homage to what our ancestors created”. Every discussion with Pinjuh was an experience to be fondly remembered, a new story he fully committed himself to. His early death is a great loss and, on behalf of the CHF, I offer my sincerest condolences to the family, relatives, colleagues and friends.
