The Roman Catholic mass at the Franciscan Church of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Ljubljana, the capital city of neighbouring Slovenia, was celebrated by Josip Mrzljak, the bishop of Varaždin, and marks the fiftieth anniversary of Croatian language masses. The event was celebrated as part of the 31st Days of Christmas of ethnic Croatian Catholics in Slovenia
The 31st Days of Christmas of ethnic Croatian Catholics in Ljubljana gathered many Croatian followers of the Roman Catholic Church from across neighbouring Slovenia. Mass was jointly celebrated at the Franciscan church by Josip Mrzljak, the bishop of Varaždin, Franc Šuštar, the auxiliary bishop of Ljubljana, Dr Tomislav Markić, the head of the pastoral office for Croats abroad and other local priests. In his sermon bishop Mrzljak encouraged the local Croatian members of the Church to hold on to their faith and their religious and national identity. Speaking of the liturgical celebration of Christmas he noted that it was a reflection of our lives as individuals and as a part of humanity.
