Much useful advice, new practical knowledge and skills were exchanged during the eight days of learning, creating and socialising. Selected theatre and puppet plays were viewed, discussions staged with leading Croatian actors and costume designers and the magic of the stage absorbed.
The Croatian Heritage Foundation again this year played host to our July seminar for the heads of theatre (dramatic arts) troupes active abroad. Fifteen participants from Macedonia, Vojvodina, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Hungary, Canada and Germany made the trip to the island of Galovac/Školjić for this traditional CHF seminar.
The seminar is conceived as a workshop providing training to those who wish to expand and enrich their knowledge, and for those who looking to establish a theatre troupe. Much useful advice, new practical knowledge and skills were exchanged during the eight days of learning, creating and socialising. Selected theatre and puppet plays were viewed, discussions staged with leading Croatian actors and costume designers and the magic of the stage absorbed.
As in previous years the seminar closed with the performance of a small play the local inhabitants and visiting tourists were once again eager to come out to see. Following the play the participants were presented with certificates of participation.
Stimulating interest for the dramatic arts, and for its representative models in the homeland, seminar leader and Zagreb-based director Nina Kleflin, as an experienced theatre pedagogue and lecturer, took this summer’s participants, in lectures and trials, through all phases of the creation of a theatre play. Guided by the principle that theatre is hard to conceive, but not difficult to create, the participants and leader of the seminar successfully proved that it is both possible and achievable.
