The Winter School of Croatian Folklore will close with a joint performance of all participants at the municipal sport arena in Crikvenica on Saturday, January 12. Many of the participants are third and fourth generation Croatians born outside the homeland, and while participating in this CHF programme, besides learning folklore melodies and playing traditional instruments, they also refresh their knowledge of the Croatian language.
The traditional Winter School of Croatian Folklore wraps up in Crikvenica on January 12. The event is organised by the Croatian Heritage Foundation, and this year’s programme covers the melodies, folk costume and choreography of the Croatian folklore heritage of the Dinaric Alps.
Instruction will be held to the end of next week at two locations—the Hotel Kaštel and the sports arena of the Dr Antun Barac Secondary School Centre—in several sections and programmes led by ethnomusicologist Andrija Ivančan. The two sections are led by Tibor Buen (tamboura) and Vjekoslav Martinić (traditional instruments).
Seventy participants from a number of European and other countries are taking part in the work of the school, from Argentina, the USA, Germany, Slovakia, Hungary, Switzerland, Vojvodina (Serbia), Bosnia-Herzegovina and Croatia.
