Šime Vlahov staged a showing of his vividly coloured aquarelles and oil paintings to Split audiences on the 4th of September at the exhibition gallery of the Marko Marulić municipal library. The event was organised by the Split branch office of the CHF. The exhibition is open through to the 16th of September, with a scheduled gala closing at 7 pm.
Šime Vlahov is a painter living and working in the Germany city of Munich. He was born in Šibenik where he began exhibiting his work as a child. He moved to Germany in his early twenties and established himself as an artist. He attended workshops and private courses under leading painters and has dedicated his life to art. He went on to set up his own atelier where he gives courses and teaches techniques such as aquarelle, graphic art and others. His bonds to his native southern Croatian region of Dalmatia have seen him organise painting colonies along the length of the Adriatic seaboard. Over a span of some twenty years he has played host in Croatia to some two hundred artists that have taken their impressions of the beauty of our country to their native Bavaria. Šime Vlahov has thus become a promoter of tourism in our country.
He has staged art workshops in the Istria and Dalmatia regions, his favourite being his native Šibenik. The works of the participants now grace their homes and the tale of our seaboard continues to develop. When these artists discover what it is like to work in the shadows of cypress and pine trees, they always want to come back for more. While some of the participants are amateur painters, there are also some very talented people involved. Alfons Neubauer, a restorer of antiquity sculptures with the glyptotheque in Munich, discovered Dalmatia through these art colonies.
Šime Vlahov has staged numerous solo exhibitions, and his curriculum vitae will now also include this Split showing, through which he has enriched the culture offer in our city late this summer and for the first time presented his work to art lovers in Split.
