The chairman of the Hrvatska Uzdanica association Ivan Radić and Croatian Heritage Foundation director Mijo Marić, representing the organising and co-organising organisations, welcomed the guests.
The Sheraton hotel in Zagreb was the venue on the 26th of October for a gala evening for returnees, ethnic Croatians that have moved here from our diaspora communities abroad. The event gathered many returnees and their friends for socialising and an opportunity to exchanging experiences since moving to Croatia.
The gala Returnees’ Night event aims to contribute to reaffirming the potential of our diaspora communities, which have for years made contributions to the old homeland. The event shifts the focus from the departure of people from Croatia to those who have opted to move (back) here and encourages the idea of unity between homeland and diaspora Croatians, and aims to raise awareness among the domestic public of the issue.
The guests of honour, including Members of Parliament Miro Kovač, Božo Ljubić and Željko Glasnović, state secretary Zvonko Milas and retired army general Ante Roso, were welcomed by the chairman of the Hrvatska Uzdanica association Ivan Radić and by Croatian Heritage Foundation director Mijo Marić. Among the many well-known people at the event that have moved to Croatia from our diaspora communities was former Croatian national soccer team member Josip Šimunić with his family.
Providing entertainment for the event was the Turbo X band and singer Mate Bulić. The evening also included a raffle to collect monetary assistance for the Friar Mladen Hrkać Humanitarian Association. The event was organised by the Hrvatska Uzdanica association with co-organiser the Croatian Heritage Foundation.
