The University School of Croatian Language and Culture (UNISOCLAC), which is traditionally jointly organized every year by the University of Zagreb and the Croatian Heritage Foundation, will start operating on Monday, June 27, 2022.

The opening ceremony of the School was held at the University of Zagreb, and students were addressed by the rector of the University of Zagreb, prof. Damir Boras, PhD, director of the Croatian Heritage Foundation, Mijo Marić, prof., and the head of the School, prof. Zrinka Jelaska, PhD.

This year, the University School will be attended by 29 students from countries all around the world: Australia, Austria, Chile, England, Hong Kong, Italy, South Africa, Canada, Hungary, Germany, USA, Scotland and Spain.

One scholarship was also awarded to the Central State Office for Croats Abroad, which, together with the Croatian Heritage Foundation, awarded a scholarship to students from Adolfo Ibáñez University (Chile) selected based on a competition.

The school is intended for young people of Croatian origin and anyone who wants to get to know Croatia, acquire or expand their knowledge about it and learn or improve the Croatian language. Language classes consist of separate grammar and reading lessons. Knowledge of the Croatian language is divided into three levels: beginner, intermediate and advanced.

Classes will be held at the University of Zagreb (Trg Republike Hrvatske 14). In addition to language classes, a cultural program has been organized for students, which includes academic and field lectures on Croatian culture and history, a tour of Zagreb, visits to museums, a concert and study trips.

All participants who pass the final exams will receive a diploma from the University School signed by the Rector of the University of Zagreb and the Head of the School, a certificate of grades and a certificate of obtaining 8 ECTS credits for the Croatian language and 1 ECTS credit for Croatian culture.

This year’s University School of Croatian Language and Culture stops operating on July 22.
