The Festa Dubrovnik association, the Dubrovnik Association of Artists and the Croatian Heritage Foundation are jointly hosting the Orlando and St Blasius Exhibition in the foyer of the Marin Držić Theatre. On hand to welcome the gathered at the opening was Darija Mikulandra Žanetić of the Festa Dubrovnik association.
Speaking at the event art historian Marin Ivanović noted that the Festa Dubrovnik association has been active now for eighteen years, and noted that we are now celebrating the 600th year since the installation of the Orlando Pillar. He also noted, in a jocular tone, that two apparently utterly disparate figures, that of the patron saint and of the knight Orlando, have been brought together by Slobodan Nano Vlašić in the concept for this exhibition. Speaking of the exhibition Ivanović said that it was well conceived and coherent, pooling fourteen works by twelve artists. His colleague Antun Karaman noted that festival exhibitions were often staged without a critical concept and opined that there was on these occasions often a dearth of clarity in their conception. As the selectors of the works on display Karaman and Ivanović had a rather narrow field of works from which to make their choices, but Karaman did point out that the fact that a selection process was in place did encourage the artists to show their full artistic potential in the aspiration that their work would be among those selected. He also spoke of the historical ties between Orlando, the “Dubrovnian of stone”, and the city.
Maja Mozara, the head of the local branch office of the Croatian Heritage Foundation, noted that it was the mission of the CHF to preserve heritage and culture, and expressed her satisfaction that the exhibition is dedicated to the late Jagoda Lasić. Valter Kožul thanked the Festa association and the Croatian Heritage Foundation for their collaboration on this project, adding that Ms Lasić would be missed by all and remembered as a great person, a friend and as a fellow association member.
Featuring at the exhibition is the work of Mišo Baričević, Mirica Dubčić, Nikola Nino Dubčić, Marijan Fragić, Vedran Grabovac, Maja Kovačević, Valter Kožul, Loren Ligorio, Pero Skvrce, Miro Stamatović, Josip Škerlj and Veronika Šulić.
Festa association president Slobodan Nano Vlašić opened the exhibition on the 30th of January. The exhibition will be open to the public through to the 18th of February.
