The Croatian Heritage Foundation has created a digital edition (PDF file) of one of the key works covering Croatian settlement of North America, Ante Tresić Pavičić’s exhaustive 1907 travelogue Preko Atlantika do Pacifika / Život Hrvata u Sjevernoj Americi – putopisna, estetska, ekonomska i politička promatranja (Across the Atlantic to the Pacific / The Lives of Croatians in North America – Travelogue, Aesthetic, Economic and Political Observations).
In this tome Tresić Pavičić describes his travels through the United States of America, from coast to coast, noting the growing number of Croatian settlers in this country and the problems and dilemmas they faced.
In relation to the 1907 print edition, this digital version is enhanced with dozens of photographs of the people and places Tresić Pavičić met and visited and almost a thousand notes that elucidate in detail the places and the people in the travelogue and the numerous archaic terms used by the author.
The book is adapted to multimedia use. It contains links that guide readers connected to the Internet to the locations, shown in the Google Maps interface, visited by Tresić Pavičić, and filmed content from the archives of the Library of Congress in Washington DC.
The book is accessible at this link.
