Dina Levačić has become the first Croatian national to swim the 46-kilometre route around Manhattan.
Dina Levačić, a third-year student of rehabilitation at the University of Zagreb’s Faculty of Education and Rehabilitation Sciences, has become the first Croatian national to swim the 46-kilometre route around Manhattan, achieving the feat on the 25th of June.
Dina swam the route passing under the twenty bridges linking Manhattan with the rest of New York. The best known among these is the Brooklyn bridge and the longest is the George Washington bridge, linking Manhattan with New Jersey. She swam from the southern cape near the fallen World Trade Centre twin towers, along the East River, the Harlem River and, finally, the Hudson River.
This trek is the start of her triple-crown project in which Dina aims to become the first person from Croatia to swim the forty-six kilometres around Manhattan, the thirty-four kilometres from Catalina Island to Los Angeles, which she will do in August, and the first Croatian to swim across La Manche (also thirty-four kilometres), slated for September.
