The Croatian Academic Community of Austria played host to the presentation on the 21st of April of Periodicum 2015, a miscellany of papers, and the book Kroaten an der Wiener Universität (Croatians at the University of Vienna) from a symposium held on the occasion of the 650th anniversary of the founding of the University of Vienna. On hand to speak about the publications were HAZ Austria director Anamarija Manestar, Dr Josip Seršić of HAZ, professor Alojz Jembrih of the University of Zagreb’s Croatian Studies department, academician Josip Bratulić from Zagreb, and academician Nikola Benčić from the Gradišće (Burgenland) region in Austria. The gathered were also addressed by Biserka Lukan of the State Office for Croats Abroad and by Croatian Heritage Foundation director Marin Knezović.
The gathered were greeted by Croatian ambassador to Austria Dr Vesna Cvjetković in her role as personal envoy of Croatian President Kolinda Grabar Kitarović. Ambassador Cvjetković congratulated the Croatian Academic Community (HAZ) on its successful work in Austria. The promotion was moderated by Dr Zdenka Weber, the minister plenipotentiary for culture at the Croatian embassy in Austria. On behalf of the hosts the visitors were welcomed by HAZ representatives Marijan Kalapurić and Igor Lacković.
Also on hand to address the gathered was the winner of the annual HAZ award, Dr Sabina Hodžić, a senior lecturer in public finance at the University of Rijeka’s Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management, and Dr Emira Bečić, a research fellow with the Croatian science, education and sports ministry. A letter of support sent by Dr Frančeska Liebmann for the work of HAZ was also read.
Other guests of the event included Vladimir Biti and Bernardica Katušić of the University of Vienna’s Institute for Slavic Studies and Ivana Rora, the head of the marketing department of the Croatian Heritage Foundation.
The event closed with a reception with music provided by flute player Nika Baumann and the duo of Krunoslav Rigismundh and Mijo Bijuklić (vocals and guitar). (www.haz-at.com/www.kroativ.at)
