Canadian-Croatian a cappella ensemble Klapa Kartolina of Windsor, Ontario kicked off its Croatian tour at the event. Their tour of the country is organised and supported by the Croatian Heritage Foundation. Also performing was the group’s female section the Klapa Fritule, which brings together second-generation Canadians of Croatian ethnic extraction.
The world’s second-largest country celebrated its independence recently. This year marks Canada’s 152nd birthday with Canadian ambassador to Croatia Daniel Maksymiuk hosting a gala reception on the 4th of July at the atrium of Zagreb’s archaeological museum where he welcomed the many gathered political, academic, public and society figures.
Klapa Kartolina (http://klapakartolina.com), a Canadian-Croatian a cappella ensemble, kicked off its Croatian tour by singing the Canadian and Croatian national anthems at the event. Their tour of the country is organised and supported by the Croatian Heritage Foundation. The group is based out of the city of Windsor in the Canadian province of Ontario and is affiliated with the Croatian Catholic Parish of St Francis of Assisi and recently joined the membership of the Canadian Croatian Folklore Federation – East. It works to promote klapa singing and Croatian cultural heritage. Also performing was the group’s youth female section the Klapa Fritule, which brings together second-generation Canadians of Croatian ethnic extraction.
The Canadian ambassador thanked everyone who has contributed to the good bilateral relations between Croatia and Canada. Also on hand to speak to the merrymakers were Janko Perić MP, who served in the Canadian parliament as a deputy of the Liberal party from 1993 to 2000, and academician Željko Reiner, the deputy speaker of Croatian Parliament.
