Following the presentation of the programme in May at the Museum Documentation Centre, the Croatian Heritage Foundation branch offices in Dubrovnik and Split had the opportunity to present the event and the issues of emigration from Blato, with a particular focus on the years 1924 to 25, at the premises of the CHF branch office in Dubrovnik.
The Land of Tears is Mysterious event was hosted at the premises of the Croatian Heritage Foundation and the Days of Lumbilja event announced, with a culinary sampling for everyone gathered. Available for sampling were lumblija, hrstule, badmi, arancini and local liqueurs from the Barilo ethno house from Blato.
The Land of Tears is Mysterious event was staged in May of this year in Blato on the island of Korčula, organised by the Blatskih fižula culture institution, the Tourism Board of the Municipality of Blato and the Barilo ethno house. The event also saw the first ever staging of the International Museum Day in Blato. The theme of this year’s entire international event was “Museums for a Sustainable Society”. The event was staged for the most part at the premises of the Barilo ethno house but also included much of the old historical core of Blato. Besides the core theme the event also focused on an associated topic, that of “Emigration: a Historical Overview and the Societal Aspects”. It is of great significance to Blato in the year in which we mark ninety years from the first great wave of emigration from Blato.
The Croatian Heritage Foundation branch offices in Dubrovnik and Split have recognised the importance of this event and offered their support in implementing further follow-up activities.
