An Anton Cetín exhibition opened on the 27th of September at the National and University Library in Zagreb to mark the artist’s 80th birthday, and will be open for viewing through to the 7th of October of 2016.

Anton Cetín is a Croatian born artist who has lived and worked in Canada for over forty years. He has made a donation of eighty of his works – prints, drawings and collages – to the graphic arts collection of the National and University Library, further broadening his oeuvre in the collection.

The donated works, created in the period from 1962 to 2015, are exhibited in the lobby of the National and University Library. This in an oeuvre covering a period and range of work and artistic level that is rarely seen in galleries.

At the opening to welcome the gathered was National and University Library director Tatijana Petrić. She thanked Anton Cetin for the donation of valuable artwork and said that it would be held there permanently for viewing by present and future users of the library and all other interested persons.

Mikica Maštrović, the head of the National and University Library’s graphic arts collection, was also on hand to speak of the work of Anton Cetín.

“In the rich artistic work and creativity of Anton Cetin we can not delineate the graphic artist from the painter. Few and far between are the artists that offer such a broad range in their métier. In this creative work we see not only the melding of the nuanced sensibilities of various media, but also their interweaving and interconnection.”

Anton Cetín thanked the organisers of the exhibition and all those who turned out to view his work.
