PANNONIAN DANCES

The programme of the Summer School of Croatian Folklore covers the dances, folk costumes, songs and musical instruments of Croatia’s PANNONIAN regions, i.e. the folk dances of Turopolje, Moslavina, Posavina, Bilogora, the regions centred around the towns of Slatina, Donji Miholjac, Orahovica, Našice, Nova Gradiška and the Požega valley, western Slavonije, Valpovo, Brodsko Posavlje, Đakovo, Županja, Vinkovci, and the Srijem area. Also covered in the programme are the dances of the indigenous Croatian communities of Vojvodina (Serbia), Hungary and the Bosanska Posavina area in Bosnia-Herzegovina that fall under the Pannonian dance region.
Andrija Ivančan is the School of Croatian Folklore programme head and leads the dance section. He is joined by tambura section head Tibor Bün, guest lecturer maestro Siniša Leopold, and Vjekoslav Martinić, the head of the traditional instruments section.
The school is targeted primarily to the leaders and future leaders of folklore and tamburitza ensembles, but is open to all members of amateur folklore ensembles. Follow us at www.matis.hr, and for more information at folklor@matis.hr.
You can choose from one of the three groups offered:
1. DANCE (led by Andrija Ivančan)
2. PLAYING THE TAMBURITZA (led by Tibor Bün, with guest lecturer maestro Siniša Leopold)
3. PLAYING TRADITIONAL CROATIAN INSTRUMENTS (led by Vjekoslav Martinić)
Lectures for all three groups are scheduled in morning and afternoon sessions.
Accommodation: the Zadar youth hostel in Borik near Zadar. Arrivals 1 August / Departures 12 August 2019
Tuition fee: € 80 or HRK 600 per person.
