The 2nd Returnee’s Night event was staged in Zagreb on Thursday 7 November with numerous guests and government officials in attendance. The event is organised to contribute to facilitating the process of moving to Croatia and adapting to life here for members of the diaspora communities. According to the organisers one of the important aspects of the event is to raise awareness in the general public in the homeland and among the diaspora communities of the founding, defence and development of the modern Croatian state.

This year again the event was organised by the Hrvatska Uzdanica (“Croatian Mainstay”) association with co-organiser the Croatian Heritage Foundation and held under the high patronage of Croatian President Grabar Kitarović, and with the patronage of Croatian Parliament Speaker Jandroković and of the Central State Office for Croats Abroad. Guests of honour in attendance included President Grabar-Kitarović, foreign and European affairs minister Grlić Radman and state secretary Zvonko Milas of the Central State Office for Croats Abroad.

Speaking at the event Milas noted that, “Young people, especially the third and fourth generation descendants of people that emigrated out of Croatia, see in Croatia an opportunity for a secure and quality standard of living, for doing business in niches that have yet to be developed here. All returnees, their stories, are the best part of my job. I am very delighted when I think that I will have the opportunity to meet with many of them at next year’s event. You are the first, whose personal choice and life, bear witness to many others that moving back to Croatia is an attractive proposition and, believe me when I say it, that your effort and satisfaction will inspire many.”
