About the book:
The monograph Povjestice provides a comprehensive overview of the origin, development and activities of the University School of Croatian Language and Culture, from its beginnings in 1980 to the 2025/2026 academic year. Its publication marks 45 years since the first Summer School of Croatian Language in Croatia, launched in 1980 by the Croatian Heritage Foundation together with the University of Kansas (USA), 35 years since the University of Zagreb took over the academic language program, and 15 years since the beginning of the HiT-1 Croatian Online Course. The monograph provides an overview of the institutional framework and partnership between the Croatian Heritage Foundation and the University of Zagreb, the development of the Croatian as a Foreign Language program within the University School of Croatian Language and Culture, as well as the repercussions and impacts of the School on other programs and activities at both the University of Zagreb and the Croatian Heritage Foundation, which is marking its 75th anniversary this year. The book is based on archival material, relevant documentation, professional and scientific sources and testimonies of students and associates who, in an authentic and impressive way, testify to the importance of this program for their personal and professional growth and development, but also describe the broader cultural and social context in which the School was formed.
The monograph is intended for teachers and researchers in the field of teaching Croatian as a foreign language; students of Croatian language and philology and related studies in the humanities; former, current and future students of the Croatian language and culture programs; cultural and educational institutions dealing with cooperation with Croats abroad and all those interested in the history and activities of the University School, as well as the role of the Croatian Heritage Foundation and the University of Zagreb in promoting the Croatian language and culture in an international environment.
We look forward to seeing you!
