The exhibition in the concourse of the Marin Držić Theatre is co-organised by the Dubrovnik Association of Artists, the Dubrovnik branch office of the Croatian Heritage Foundation and the Festa Dubrovnik association.
The concourse of the Marin Držić Theatre was the venue on the 1st of February for the opening of the Our Saint Blaise exhibition. The event was co-organised by the Dubrovnik Association of Artists, the Dubrovnik branch office of the Croatian Heritage Foundation and the Festa Dubrovnik association.
On hand on behalf of the Dubrovnik Association of Artists to greet the guests was Valter Kožul. Slobodan Nano Vlašić and Darija Mikulandra of the Festa Dubrovnik association were also on hand to offer a short introduction to the exhibition, declared open by Maja Mozara, the head of the Dubrovnik branch office of the Croatian Heritage Foundation in place of art historian Antun Karaman who was unable to attend due to illness.
In his written introduction to the event Karaman writes that, “Empathy and inspiration in the image and significance of St Blaise is also manifested in the artwork presented here. Each of these artists, following their individual artistic convictions of course, presents the image of St Blaise, the patron saint of Dubrovnik, in their own way, but there is one thing they have in common: empathy for the city and its patron, which, as a single body, represent the history of Dubrovnik, its everyday life and its future, in which a place will certainly be found for the patron saint. Long live St Blaise.”
At the opening Ms Mozara took the opportunity to greet in particular the representatives of the Gradišće Croatian community on hand to join the native Dubrovnians in celebrating their patron saint’s feast day.
The exhibition showcases the work of twenty-four artists: Rina Anđelić, Mišo Baričević, Franica Ćebirić, Mirica Dubčić, Nikola Dubčić, Luce Đuraš, Marijan Fragić, Nedjeljka Gligor, Vedran Grabovac, Marijana Hure, Maja Kovačević, Valter Kožul, Maro Kriste, Jagoda Lasić, Loren Ligorio, Maca Lučić, Ivan Oberan, Ana Salai Barčot, Pero Skvrce, Tonko Smokvina, Miro Stamatović, Josip Škerlj, Andrea Vukoja and Ljiljana Vukotić Knez.
