The fifth May issue of “Matica”, the monthly magazine of the Croatian Heritage Foundation, has been published and is also available online. With our 68 pages for this occasion, we highlight and recommend an overview of the 30th anniversary of Croatia’s membership in the United Nations, but also a longer Croatian presence on the East River with an article on the Peace Monument by the Croatian sculptor Antun Augustinčić which was erected in 1954 in front of the UN General Assembly.

We wrote about the promotion of the new volume of the Croatian Emigrant Almanac, a chronicle of the Croatian Heritage Foundation launched in 1955, then under the name Emigrant Calendar. In addition to the topics of mother tongue and culture, this year’s Croatian Emigrant Almanac by long-time editor Vesna Kukavica exclusively brings topics on the birth of our public diplomacy in the diaspora, which is associated with the celebration of the 30th anniversary of international recognition of the Republic of Croatia. In short, in this issue we summarize the results of the parliamentary elections in neighboring countries, which are important for the Croatian minority living there.

“Traveling School”, a program of the Croatian Heritage Foundation, was held in the Republic of Northern Macedonia. We also report on the (finally) erected monument to Andrija Mohorovičić in Zagreb…
