The final event saw participants from eleven countries in other parts of Europe and overseas showcase their inspired puppetry and dramatic arts performances, film and journalism production, and very successful artwork.
This year’s Little School of Croatian Language and Culture held its final event on 29 July at the resort of the Red Cross organisation of the City of Zagreb. Pursuant to the imposed epidemiological measures aimed at combatting the spread of the COVID-19 infection in Primorje-Gorski Kotar County and the recommendations of the resort management, the event was held without an audience, with only the people who stayed at the resort on hand.
The final event showcased the participants’ inspired puppetry and stage performances, film and journalism work, and very successful artwork.
The dramatic arts groups performed two plays: Hrvatske narodne poslovice (“Croatian Folk Proverbs”) and Oblak (“Cloud”) based on themes in the poetry of Dobriša Cesarić; participant Bodo Gretsy-Kovats offered his take on Cesarić’s Balada iz predgrađa (“A Suburban Ballad”); while the puppetry group presented a play based on the motifs of Dinka Juričić’s Hrvatska bajka (“A Croatian Fairy-tale”). The courtyard of the resort featured an exhibition of the artwork produced in the art workshop and traditional jewellery workshop. Also available for viewing were films created by the participants of the Little School and the work of the children that took part in the journalism workshop. The Spomenak newsletter produced by the Little School of Croatian Language and Culture has been offered as an online edition for the first time and can be viewed at the following site: https://sites.google.com/view/spomenak.
This year’s event gathered 53 participants in the 9 to 16 age group from eleven countries in other parts of Europe and overseas: the United States of America, Brazil, Hungary, Luxembourg, Germany, Austria, Great Britain, Sweden, France, Poland and Kosovo. Thanks to our foreign and European affairs ministry the Little School also saw the event joined by a group of 33 participants (children and group leaders) from the town of Janjevo (Kosovo).
