The No. 3 2016 issue of the Croatian Heritage Foundation’s Matica magazine is hot off the press. Featured among the many articles are those related to the work of the CHF in the jubilee year since its founding – the presentation in Zagreb of the 2016 Croatian Emigrant Almanac, the Days of Croatian Folk Theatre in Hercegovac and the HOLA project in Latin America.
Readers are sure to be fascinated by articles on the Croatian community in Paraguay, people from the island of Mljet now living in New York, an interview with Friar Šito Ćorić, the celebration of Blessed Aloysius Stepinac Day in Melbourne and a folklore festival in Duisburg. The culture section looks at a homage to composer Jakov Gotovac, the anniversary of prima ballerina Mia Čorak Slavenska, a collection of papers on Tihomil Rađa and a monograph on the men’s folk costume of the Western Slavonia region in Croatia. There are articles dedicated to heroes of the Homeland War of independence born abroad – one on the late James Patrick Mackley and an article on a documentary film by Branko Ištvančić about Jean-Michel Nicolier (1996 – 1991). Along with the regular columns by Vesna Kukavica, Zvonko Ranogajec, Šimun Šito Ćorić, Željko Holjevac, Jozo Župić, Davor Rostuhar and Sanja Vulić the magazine also features obituaries for Friar Častimir Majić (USA), Slobodan Lang (Croatia), George Blažević (Australia), Drago Geohelli (Canada) and Marija Vrljičak de Sutter (Argentina).
In the 65 years of Matica magazine the recent period has seen our monthly produced under a number of editors: Boris Maruna (1990 – 1991), Nenad Goll (1991 – 1992), Boris Maruna (1992 – 1995), Nenad Goll (1995 – 2002), Tihomir Dujmović (2002 – 2003), Stjepo Martinović (2003 – 2004), Nenad Zakarija (2004 – 2009) and Hrvoje Salopek (since 2009).
