In July of this year the Croatian Heritage Foundation will play host to the 47th CFU JUNIOR TAMBURITZA FESTIVAL. Scheduled for the three-day programme, from July 5th thru 7th, are a number of interesting gatherings and concerts. Sixteen CFU-member ensembles are expected to make the trip from the USA and Canada, joined by four local ensembles.

A welcome concert will be staged at Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall on day one, July 5th, of the event for the CFU Junior tamburitzans. Performing at the concert will be the Croatian Radio & Television (HRT) Tamburitza Orchestra under the baton of maestro Siniša Leopold, the Zagreb Folklore Ensemble and many other groups.

The participants will have their general rehearsal on Saturday, with the festival kicking off in the afternoon. The crown of the event will be a closing number featuring all of the tamburitza groups. A reception is to be given that evening for all of the event participants and guests.

Sunday, July 7th, will see the participants and the hosts of the Festival gather for a tamburitza mass at the Cathedral, followed that afternoon by a picnic at the Youth Town.

The gala celebration of the 110th anniversary of the most influential and largest association of Croatians living abroad was organised in collaboration with the CHF in Zagreb in 2004. The Croatian Fraternal Union (CFU) in the USA and Canada was founded in 1894 in Allegheny City, now a part of Pittsburgh and home to the association’s headquarters. The Youth Culture Federation of the USA and Canada Festival has previously been staged in Zagreb four times: 1976, 1981, 1986 and 1997.
