A virtual exhibition entitled Split Around the Corner (Split iza kantuna) was presented in the Austrian city of Graz this March 21st, thanks to the excellent and long time collaboration with the Austrian-Croatian Initiative, a worthy association based in Graz, and at the encouragement of the Split branch office of the Croatian Heritage Foundation. This presentation was organised in collaboration with the Museum of the City of Split, the Napredak Croatian Culture Society of Graz—the event host—and the Association of Croatian Students in Graz.
The author of the exhibition is Goran Borčić, a museum advisor in the Museum of the City of Split. It depicts the history of the city from 1860 to 1960 through some three hundred photographs. This particular event also features a segment depicting present-day Split in the photos and short films of photographer Zlatko Sunko. The exhibition is the fruit of a lengthy study of a collection of photographs at the museum, stewarded at the museum by Mr. Borčić. The Museum of the City of Split holds a collection of some 18 thousand original old photographs—this selection depicts the development of Split over a one hundred year period, starting from a shot taken by Petar Zinko, Split’s first photographer.
Joining the author for the presentation were Edith Risse, an Austrian art historian and the event moderator, Branka Bezić Filipović on behalf of the Split branch of the CHF, Austrian-Croatian Initiative president Rade Lukić and Croatian honorary consul in Graz Nikolaus Hermann.
In spite of the many events staged in Graz on that day, Croatians and their Austrian friends did not miss the opportunity to see this presentation of the history of Split.
