This year’s reincarnation of the CHF’s long-time successful Task Force project, led by Nives Antoljak, gathered 35 young people of Croatian extraction from five continents (sixteen countries, to be exact) in Murter from August 15th to September 1st.
During the fifteen days of work they transformed kilometres of dilapidated Liburian ramparts into attractive walkways and cleared the sunken sections of a maritime Roman villa of rubble in preparation for further repair and conservation work.
The participants also took part in the Colentum Night – an event organised by the Municipality of Murter and Kornati Tourism Board, went on excursions and – with no lack of energy after the field work – staged Latino, Dracula and Balkan parties.
On August 30th CHF director Mr Marin Knezović and EHTF representatives laid wreaths at the site of the tragedy that took the lives of fire fighters on the Kornati islands. Mr Knezović was also present for the dress rehearsal for the closing festivity.
The closing evening, August 31st, saw performances of two one-act plays, Marijana Nola’s Klopka (Trap) and Ivan Mokrović’s Zubobolje (Toothache), both directed by the youthful Ivan Mokrović, that had the audience roaring with laughter.
The participants of the Task Force event and their work in Murter were showcased at the final evening along with a presentation of the participants of Croatian language instruction and photographic and video material from the fieldwork at the Colentum site. On hand for the closing festivity was the mayor of the municipality Ivan Božikov, who presented all the participants with letters of thanks and commemorative gifts.
For all of the participants and organisers it was an arduous, fun and unforgettable eighteen days everyone will fondly remember, with a pledge to come again for next year’s Task Force.
