A special commendation and Domovnica prize sculpture for fifteen years of sponsorship was presented to the Croatian Heritage Foundation, and to the Croatian general consulate in Stuttgart and general consul Ivan Sablić for the many years of support for the Večernji List daily newspaper’s annual promotional event.
Due to the enforcement of epidemiological measures the 2021 15th annual Domovnica award ceremony was not held in Bad Homburg as planned. A presentation of the awards, the most prestigious prizes presented to members of our diaspora by an organisation operating out of the homeland, was held instead on 13 July at the premises of the Croatian general consulate in Stuttgart for recipients in Baden-Württemberg, one of the states that make up the Federal Republic of Germany.
The Domovnica prize is an award presented by the Večernji List daily newspaper and news portal. The Domovnica prize in the sports category went to the Croatia Stuttgart football (soccer) club, in the culture category to the HKŠU Vila Croatia Stuttgart organisation, while in the acting category it went to Alain Blažević.

The Večernji List Domovnica prize in the amateur sports, culture associations, and acting categories were presented by general consul in Stuttgart Ivan Sablić and by Stipe Puđa. The Domovnica prize is the brainchild of Puđa, head of the paper’s foreign issue desk in Frankfurt.
The Domovnica prizes awarded to amateur sports club Croatia Stuttgart, the HKŠU Vila Croatia Stuttgart culture association, and to actor Alain Blažević are all based on voting by readers of Večernji List.
On hand for the ceremony in Stuttgart were Croatian Heritage Foundation deputy director Ivan Tepeš and the head of our marketing department Ivana Rora.
Lorena Samardžija, a pupil attending the 8th grade of Croatian language supplementary language instruction in Nellingen performed a number of Croatian melodies on violin to the delight of the gathered event participants. The event was covered by Croatian state broadcaster HRT with a report on the Večernji List Domovnica prize event aired on the Globalna Hrvatska (“Global Croatia”) show hosted by Zvonko Božinović.
The Večernji List daily will continue to present its Domovnica prize to the other winners in September of this year.
In spite of the difficulties created by the pandemic coronavirus fears and measures the Večernji List daily chose not to cancel its fifteenth annual event awarding prizes to the most popular Croatians in the diaspora communities, opting instead to take voting online for its readers.
The sixteenth Domovnica prize selection process kicks off late this year with the awards ceremony planned for 12 March 2022 at the Kurhaus congress centre in Bad Homburg, contingent on the event being permitted if epidemiological measures remain in place. The organisers hope to see the next event repeat the atmosphere of earlier years with an excellent music programme, refreshments and socialising.
