Croatians in Montenegro Day

On 13 January the president of the Tivat municipality Željko Komnenović and the vice president of the Tivat municipal assembly Andrija Petković received the president of the Croatian Civic Initiative Adrijan Vuksanović, its vice president Ilija Janović, and Zvonimir Deković, president of the Croatian National Council of Montenegro.

 

 

The Croatian flag flew today next to the Montenegrin colours at the municipal government buildings in Tivat and Kotor as provided under Montenegrin legislation on the selection, use and public display of symbols of the ethnic groups in the country.

The day is celebrated as Croatians in Montenegro Day in memory of the day in the year 809 when legend has the relics of St Tryphon transferred from Constantinople to Kotor.

The flying of the Croatian flag alongside the Montenegrin flag on this day is for the Croatians of Montenegro a source of pride and witness to the unity and the continuity of the Croatian ethnic presence in the region. (Radio Dux)
