The Dražen Petrović arena at the Croatian language kindergarten, elementary school, secondary school and dormitory in Hungary’s Budapest was the venue for the First Memorial Basketball Tournament, won by Šibenik’s Dražen Petrović Junior Basketball Club.
The Dražen Petrović sports arena at the Croatian language kindergarten, elementary school, secondary school and dormitory (HOŠIG) in Hungary’s Budapest was the venue on the 6th and 7th of October for the First Dražen Petrović Memorial Basketball Tournament. Joining the host were other ethnic schools in the Hungarian capital: the ethnic Germany gymnasium and dormitory, the Nikola Tesla ethnic Serbian pre-school day care centre, elementary school and dormitory, and HOŠIG twin schools in Croatia. Among the twinning schools are Zagreb’s 7th Gymnasium, Pazin’s Gymnasium and Juraj Dobrila Trade School, and the Hungarian Education and Culture Centre in Osijek. The event special guest was the Dražen Petrović Junior Basketball Club from Šibenik.
On hand for this sporting event was the minister plenipotentiary at the Croatian embassy in Budapest Ivan Bušić, and the chairperson of the ethnic Croatian minority self-government body in the City of Budapest Anica Petreš Németh. Presenting the awards, medals and cup at the closing ceremony was Miklós Soltész, the state secretary for religious and ethnic relations and for refugee Christians in the Hungarian Prime Minister’s office. The bronze medal went to the Nikola Tesla Serbian pre-school day care centre, elementary school and dormitory, the silver medal went to the team of Pazin’s Gymnasium and Juraj Dobrila Trade School, with the champion’s cup going to the Dražen Petrović Junior Basketball Club from Šibenik.
