April-July, August-November, Zagreb (preparations), Argentina and Chile
Organisers: Croatian Heritage Foundation and HOLA – Young Hispanicists’ Association of the University of Zagreb
Venue: Zagreb (preparations), Argentina and Chile
Period: April-July, August-November (residence in the communities)
Two weeks in a set period (preparations)
The Croatian language and culture project in Latin America implies organised Croatian language courses and lectures on Croatian culture, its monuments and natural heritage.
Ahead of each school year Croatian centres in involved countries of Latin America (currently Argentina and Chile) survey the level of interest for Croatian language instruction. The centres determine the number of lecturers based on the number of interested people. The project coordination centre in Zagreb is notified to this effect (consisting of lecturers who have already taught in Latin America), i.e. the Croatian Organisation for Latin America (HOLA) in Zagreb, which invites tenders for the post of lecturer and organises interviews with candidates.
The CHF department of education, science & sports organises a two-week preparation session for the selected future lecturers and participates in the procurement of instructional materials.
Through this valuable project the Croatian communities of Latin America form links and become better acquainted with Croatia. On the other hand the extended sojourn in one of the existing Spanish-speaking areas in Latin America allows young experts/lecturers (undergrad and graduate Hispanicists, Croatists and other undergrad and graduate teachers from other study groups at the University of Zagreb’s Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences) to improve their knowledge of Spanish, learn about the culture, traditions and way of life in the Latin American countries they teach in and thus achieve a higher level of personal creativity and knowledge.
