Born in Split, Ms Rajčić Holzner now calls Zurich and Innsbruck home. She is active in socio-cultural animation and as a writer.
Switzerland’s Federal Office of Culture has announced that Dragica Rajčić Holzner is the winner of a 2021 literary prize. Ms Rajčić Holzner was born in the Croatian coastal city of Split in 1959. She moved to Switzerland in 1978 after completing secondary school. She hired out her services as a domestic and began writing in German. A decade later she was back in Croatia where she found employment as a journalist. She moved back to Switzerland when Croatia, newly independent of the now defunct Yugoslav federation, faced an armed attack in 1991. She now lives between Zurich and Innsbruck and is active in socio-cultural animation and as a writer.
In her book Sreća (“Happiness”) Ms Rajčić Holzner tells of a yearning for acceptance and love that does not find support in either memory or spatial divisions. The author portrays a world full of unreasonable demands and does so in her own distinctive and authentic voice. (Hrvatski glas Berlin)
