Guests of honour for the most prestigious homeland awards ceremony for prominent figures in the diaspora included state secretary Zvonko Milas, representing the Croatian PM, state secretary Zdravka Bušić, deputy speaker of parliament Milijan Brkić, Miro Kovač MP, apostolic nuncio Nikola Eterović, ambassador Gordan Grlić Radman, and CHF director Mijo Marić with his aids.
The German town of Bad Homburg was the scene on the 23rd of March for the presentation of the most prestigious homeland awards for prominent figures in the diaspora communities, the 13th annual Domovnica Award ceremony, presented by the international edition of the Večernji List newspaper.
State secretary Milas noted that the Domovnica Award was a particular recognition of ethnic Croatians abroad, individuals and communities, that have made their mark in the world. He congratulated the organisers and all of this year’s nominees and winners.
“With the objective of affirming the role and strengthening the Croatian emigrant community and its descendants, Croatian Government proposed in December of 2018 amendments to the Croatian Citizenship Act that will facilitate acquiring citizenship for ethnic Croats around the world,” states secretary Milas said at the event, which he attended as the representative of the Croatian prime minister.
Among the guests of honour at the annual Domovnica Awards ceremony were Zdravka Bušić, the state secretary at the foreign and European affairs ministry, Milijan Brkić, deputy speaker of Croatian Parliament, Dr Miro Kovač, a Member of Parliament for the HDZ party and head of Parliament’s foreign policy committee, Roman Catholic nuncio Nikola Eterović, the papal representative to Germany, Dr Gordan Grlić Radman, the Croatian ambassador to Germany, all Croatian general consuls in Germany, and Croatian Heritage Foundation director Mijo Marić with his aids. Also on hand for the event were representatives of local and regional governments in Croatia.
This year’s Večernji List Domovnica Award ceremony in Bad Homburg was held under the auspices of the Croatian foreign and European affairs ministry and the State Office for Croats Abroad.
