Academy educated painter Marija Dujmović Kondras’ Summer exhibition opened August 20th at the gallery of the CHF branch office in Pula.
Joining painter Marija Dujmović Kondres and event organiser Ana Bedrina of the CHF Pula office at the gala opening to present the exhibited works was art historian Gorka Ostojić Cvajner.
Plenty of lively colours created a sense of animation and friendship among all the gathered and Gorka Ostojić Cvajner described in detail her experience of the exhibition and her professional critique of the painter’s oeuvre. Following words of welcome and opening remarks, the head of the Pula branch office declared the exhibition open – the event will be open to art buffs through to September 20th. Those gathered to see the works on display and to socialise included many visiting emigrants and returnees.
“In her paintings this artist adopts a motif, analyses it as a painter and seeks the essence of its beauty. In her artistic expression she opts for a free gesture, the expressive quality of the stroke, achieving thereby a surface rich in vibration. Her sensitivity for the coloristic flicker of the scene depicted, an optical sense that intuitively focuses the object and the distribution of experiences through the painter’s medium – primarily elicited by the personal poetry of a lyrical perception of the motif – produces paintings of particular freshness and rich colour. She selects the motif with her eye, paints with very expressive gestures and shapes her forms with colour. Her decanting of the seen in the painting and, on the other hand, the imagined, join to produce visions of multiple meanings,” noted art historian Cvajner.
Marija Dujmović Kondres (1969) studied at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington DC, and at the department of painting of the Academy of Fine Arts in Sarajevo where she graduated in 1991. She is a recipient of the UNESCO Aschberg scholarship in 1996.
