The Municipality of Hrvatski Grob (Chorvátsky Grob) in Slovakia celebrated its Day with a lavish programme on the 6th and 7th of September. Guests of the event were the mayor of Benkovac, the city-friend of the municipality and the Benkovac Culture & Arts Association, represented by the excellent performances of the Knez Branimir Culture & Arts Society and the Klapa Asseria a cappella band, and a presentation of the cuisine and wines of the region. The culture and entertainment programme included the performances of the local Chorvatanka and Mala Chorvatanka Culture & Arts Societies, which nurture Croatian folklore, and a friendly football match.
The highlight of the celebration was the unveiling of a monument dedicated to the priest Ferdo (Ferdiš) Takač. The impressive 3.5 metre high stone monument with commemorative plaque (a gift from the City of Benkovac) was installed in the park between the municipal council building and the church erected by the local Croatian community where Takač was laid to rest.
On hand to address the gathered were Croatian Ambassador Jakša Muljačić, Hrvatski Grob mayor Miroslav Jonašov, Benkovac mayor Branko Kutija and the president of the Croatian Culture Federation in Slovakia Radoslav Jankovič.
