Among its many activities the Croatian Community organisation of Trieste (Comunita Croata di Trieste) in neighbouring Italy is also active in providing humanitarian aid, donating material and equipment to institutions and agencies that are charged with health and safety in Croatia. After a valuable donation of materials, equipment and instruments made to the neonatal clinic at the obstetrics facility at Petrova street in Zagreb, which suffered earthquake damage, the Croatians of Trieste have made another significant effort in collecting funds for the procurement of new and necessary equipment for the HGSS (Croatian Mountain Rescue Service) and its about one thousand volunteer members.
Encouraged by the great efforts of the HGSS in assisting people and in normalising living conditions in the part of the Banovina region damaged during the recent earthquake, the Comunita Croata di Trieste leveraged some three hundred donators to collect some 23 thousand euro for the procurement of material and equipment, including protective garments, alpine stretchers, headlamps, a mobile power generator, distribution cabinets, and other valuable items. Notably all of the donated funds were spent in Croatia.
