One of the traditional projects of the Croatian Community in Trst (Trieste) is a meeting of Croatian sailors at the well-known Barcolana regatta staged every year on the second Sunday in October.
Some 2,000 sailboats head for the finish line Sunday morning, not only to clinch the title, but also for the joy of participating in this magnificent regatta.
This year’s Barcolana again drew numerous sailing buffs from the region and Croatia. The worthy and courteous hosts, members of the Croatian Community, organised a gala reception for Croatian sailors and enthusiasts of this attractive sport.
The welcome reception was held Saturday, October 11th ahead of the 46th Barcolana regatta at the Filoxenia hotel just off the Trieste waterfront. On hand for the evening event, joining the Croatian Community representatives, were many guests from the Croatian diplomatic corps, led by our Ambassador in Rome Damir Grubiša and to the Vatican Filip Vučak.
The event has been organised for many years in collaboration with the leading nautical tourism centre in Central Dalmatia, the Marina Frapa of Rogoznice, led by Franjo Pašalić.
The Croatian Sailors’ Night ahead of the regatta once again “erased” national borders. The festive atmosphere wove new threads in the unity between Croatians from the homeland and their fellow Croatians in Trieste.
