The three-day programme will see the poets visit Makarska, Zaostrog, Živogošće and Biokovo Nature Park. A gala evening of music and literature will be staged at the hall of the Arte music school in Makarska, with HIL poets joined by local poets from the southern Croatian region of Dalmatia and many guests.
Following on the meetings of poets gathered around the Hrvatska izvandomovinska lirika (“Croatian Lyricism Abroad”) association staged in New York, San Pedro, Las Vegas, Vancouver, Cleveland, Toronto and other destinations, and the most recent such events staged in Zadar, Zagreb, Solin, Vukovar and Mostar, the nineteenth meeting will be organised in the Croatian coastal town of Makarska.
The Hrvatska izvandomovinska lirika association gathers poets of diverse age groups and interests, with a shared love of the native tongue, with diverse literary oeuvres and ranges of activity in the communities in which they live. Some are emigrants from Croatia, others are descended from people that have moved abroad. There are also those who live outside Croatia but whose hearts are rooted in Croatian soil. They have all gathered for many years to work towards promoting the Croatian language through poetry.
Each meeting sees friendships enriched and new work produced, and generates broader interest for visits to and learning about new areas. This year the tourism board in Makarska and the local chapter of Matrix Croatica have extended an invitation to host and sponsor the event, which will see poets gathered around the Hrvatska izvandomovinska lirika association meet in Makarska for the group’s nineteenth event and a presentation of the book Dalmacija u lirici (“Dalmatia in Lyricism”).
The three-day event will see the gathered poets visit Makarska, Zaostrog, Živogošće and Biokovo Nature Park. As customary the poets will get to know the cultural points of interest in the host town and all other aspects of its natural environment and spirituality.
A gala evening of music and literature will be staged at the hall of the Arte music school in Makarska on the 1st of July, with HIL poets joined by local poets from the southern Croatian region of Dalmatia and many guests.
